Developmental Milestones

Early Intervention may not meet all of the needs of your child and
family. Depending on your family size and income, you may have a
monthly co-payment. Your service coordinator can guide you through the
financial eligibility process. your service coordinator can also help
you access services through insurance, and can help you find support
groups and activities for children that are offered in your own
community.

To be eligible for Early Intervention Services in New Jersey, a child
must be between the ages of birth and 36 months, and must have delays
of at least 25% in two of the following areas of development or at least
33% in one area:
" Gross Motor
" Fine Motor
" Sensory (includes vision and hearing)
" Cognitive
" Communication (receptive and expressive)
" Social-Emotional
" Adaptive
A child may also be eligible for Presumptive Eligibility through one
of the following diagnoses:
" Down Syndrome
" Fetal Alcohol Syndrome
" Hearing Impairment
" Visual Impairment
" Autism/PDD
" Spina Bifida
" Cerebral Palsy
" Trisomy 13, 18, etc.
" Fragile X Syndrome
" Hydrocephalus
In addition, if a child has a diagnosed physical or mental condition
that has a high probability of resulting in developmental delay, they
may be considered eligible for services. A letter from a physician is
required in these situations.
All children must receive a comprehensive initial evaluation within
45 days of referral, regardless of category of eligibility.
